Since the St Lawrence Cup was inaugurated in 1926, Cataraqui Golf and Country Club has been a dominant force and with their win at Mississippi Golf Club on the weekend of July 25th, the Club has won 47 of the 87 competitions held since its start. That’s quite the record and it shows the quality of golfers at the Cataraqui Golf and Country Club soon to celebrate their 100th Anniversary in 2017.
With the exception of the World War II years of 1943-1945, the St. Lawrence District Golf Association has run their team competition on an annual basis. Clubs have dropped out and others added but the St. Lawrence Cup has been sought after by various Canadian and American Clubs.
This year, the Prescott Golf Club was added to the rotation and they acquitted themselves well finishing in second place followed by Brockville Country Club and the host Mississippi Golf Club who is celebrating their 100th Anniversary in 2015.
The two-day low medalist for the competition was Cataraqui’s Drew Mayhew after a sudden-win playoff with club-mate Clayton Presant. Both had two-day total scores of 145. The low junior award was presented to Prescott Golf Club’s Sean Patterson (77-74-151) and the low senior award was won by Potsdam’s Tom Smith after a sudden-win playoff with Garrison Golf Club’s Eric Stevens after they both posted two-day scores of 153.
Convenor Doug Jones complimented the Mississippi Golf Club and its members on their organization and the quality of the golf course as well as the service provided by Mississippi staff members.
