If you haven’t noticed Cobra Golf equipment before that might be a little harder to do in 2012.
The Cobra-Puma brand has unveiled their latest line of golf products just in time for the start of the professional golf season. That’s perfect as more than a few of their staffers will be putting the new AMP line to use.
On the men’s side you’ll see the Orange dominates the finishing touches on all the AMP line. Although it has not been officially confirmed, former Oklahoma State Cowboy Rickie Fowler is pretty fond of the colour, suggesting that the PUMA staffer is highly likely to on board as Cobra staffer when he makes his season debut shortly. The ladies’ versions of the clubs get a bright topping too, with green accent to each of the sticks.
The new AMP line builds on the E9 face mapping technology that Cobra has used in the past. Each club purposely has an elliptical face design that places more area of effective hitting surface exactly where most golfers impact the ball based on the company’s studies.
Additional technologies for the AMP driver includes Adjustable Flight Technology (AFT)TM, providing golfers with the option to set the face angle as Open, Neutral or Closed to optimize for their preferred ball flight and fit to their swing dynamics. The company has also adjusted the centre of gravity and shaft design for each loft of the driver to better match the needs of the player most likely to use that club. They call this “AMP SpeedTuning.”
The AMP Driver is also available in an offset design to reduce the effects of a slice with a draw-bias built right in.
The COBRA AMP Driver (MSRP $329) is available in lofts of 8.5°, 9.5°,10.5° and 11.5° in men’s right-handed, and 9.5° and 10.5° in men’s left-handed. The 8.5° loft is available in X or S flex, the 9.5° and 10.5° in S or R Flex and the 11.5° in R or Lite Flex. All lofts feature the Aldila RIP® Speed Tuned shaft.
The COBRA AMP Offset Driver (MSRP $279) is available in a men’s right handed or left-handed 10.5° in S or R flex and a men’s right handed 11.5° in a R or Lite flex. The AMP Offset Driver features an Aldila RIP® Speed Tuned shaft.
The AMP Driver and AMP Offset Driver will be available in Canada on January 26th.
Fairways & Hybrids
Moving from the driver category, Cobra adds in the debut of AMP Fairways and Hybrids.
Similar to the AMP Driver, the Fairways and Hybrids blend in various technologies to enhance your game and feature black PVD and vibrant orange details on the club head, shaft and grip.
“The AMP Fairways and Hybrids were designed for all golfers seeking distance and accuracy,” said Tom Preece, Vice President of Research and Development at COBRA PUMA GOLF. “We’ve improved the construction with a 455 high strength steel face that has over 1.5 times the yield strength of the 17-4 stainless steel body, resulting in a thinner, hotter face.”
The AMP Fairways were designed with a larger profile for increased MOI to provide added forgiveness. A new, larger high strength steel face with E9 Face Technology TM and dual roll provides a 5% thinner face for a larger effective hitting area.
The AMP Fairways also feature Adjustable Flight Technology (AFT) TM, providing golfers with three simple face angle settings, Open, Neutral or Closed.
AMP Hybrids have a smaller, pear like shape for a more workable trajectory, a 455 high strength steel face to promote long, penetrating ball flight, and Adjustable Flight Technology.
The COBRA AMP Fairway (MSRP $219) is available in men’s right-handed 3 (15°), 4 (16.5°) or 5 (18°) in X, S, R or Lite flex and men’s left-handed 3 (15°) and 5 (18°) in X, S, R or Lite flex.
The COBRA AMP Hybrid (MSRP $199) is available in men’s right-handed 2/H, 3/H and 4/H in S or R flex, the 3H is also available in men’s left-handed.
The AMP Fairway and AMP Hybrid will be available in Canada on January 26th.
The closer for Cobra in the AMP family are brand new irons. Available in both an iron and a combo set with hybrids, highlights include “Advanced Material Placement” (the source of the AMP name), a progressive face and cavity design and a v-skid sole of each club.
“Our AMP Irons are perfect for any type of golfer looking for improved distance and accuracy,” said Tom Preece, Vice President of Research and Development at COBRA PUMA GOLF. “We studied thousands of golfers’ impact patterns to develop our E9 Face Technology and now we’ve improved upon that with our multi-alloy design. The two features work together to provide increased distance in long irons, consistent short irons as well as improved feel and forgiveness.”
Like the other clubs in the line E9 face technology was used to maximize the hitting area. The sole design acts to reduce turf drag by relieving mass from the heel and toe sections. The leading edge has more bounce to prevent digging while the trailing edge falls off to promote cleaner contact.
The COBRA AMP Irons are available in a Steel 8 piece set (MSRP $749) or Graphite 8 piece set (MSRP $849). Individual AMP Irons with Steel shafts (MSRP $93.99) and individual AMP Irons with graphite shafts (MSRP $106.99) are also available. The graphite irons feature the AMP graphite shaft engineered by Aldila and steel irons feature a True Temper Dynalite 90 Steel shaft. All irons feature the Lamkin® N-DUR 3GEN® grip.
The AMP Irons will be available in Canada on January 26th.
