There’s a new General Manager at the Rivermead Golf Club in Gatineau, but he’s no stranger to the Outaouais area.

Michel Demeule grew up in the Hull sector of what is now the City of Gatineau and also once lived in Chelsea. Michel played golf at the Chaudiere (now Chateau Cartier) and Kingsway Park golf clubs and is aware of much of the history of golf and the players in the area.

He most recently served as GM at Le Club de Golf Le Portage in L’Assomption, Quebec for 14 years after a term on the Board of Directors. He was asked to take the position when a successful candidate for the General Manager position decided not to take the job. With a successful career in the chemical transportation business behind him, his business knowledge was put to good use.

Flagstick.com caught up with Mr. Demeule recently for an interview.

When asked about his goals for the historic Rivermead, he indicated that he wanted to get to know his current members and that “Building the membership at the Rivermead Golf Club is a top priority.”

Like many golf clubs in the Outaouais and indeed throughout Canada, membership at golf clubs has been dwindling in the past few years and Mr. Demeule is looking forward to meeting with the membership committee at Rivermead to discuss ideas and options to bolster their roster.

Rivermead is also looking at two projects for the 2015 golf season which should enhance practice and play at the club for members and guests.

The practice area is being upgraded with the addition of three target greens with flag positions measuring 90, 100, 130, 150, 170 and 180 yards from the existing tees on the range.

The second project is to enhance the playability of the 13th and 14th holes. Projected improvements on the 13th hole include a new stone wall along the pond, the renovating of the green-side bunker, the enlargement of the fringe area around the green, the removable of the cart turn around area and lengthening of the 14th-hole tee.

“I have a good team of managers in place and it’s going to be a fun year,” said an enthusiastic and upbeat new General Manager.

Flagstick.com welcomes Michel Demeule home and we offer our best wishes for a successful golf season for him and the Rivermead Golf Club.
