It was well known that Augusta James was a talented golfer. What was unknown was how the winner of the 2010 Ontario Junior Girls’ Championship and 2011 Ontario Women’s Amateur would adapt to playing collegiate golf in the United States. Quite often the balance of being away from home and the pressures of school can be tough on the golf side of things for many student athletes.
James has proved that she can handle it all and keep her tournament golf game quite sharp as well, thank you very much.
This past weekend James, from Bath, Ontario (Loyalist CC) just west of Kingston, tied for 5th place alone at the LSU Tigers Golf Classic in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The finish represents her fourth top five finish in her freshman season with the North Carolina State Wolfpack, a team packed with talent, including several Canadians.
In the Fall James tied for second at the Tar Heel Invitational and a placed fourth at the Cardinal Cup. Just a couple weeks ago she also lost in a playoff at the Sir Pizza Cards Challenge to teammate Brittany Marchand.
With the finish James has moved into the #43 spot in the NCAA Individual Rankings posted by GolfWeek.
