ClubLink’s Eagle Creek Golf Club in Dunrobin, Ontario welcomed the Canadian Junior Golf Association over the June 12/13 weekend for a qualifying tournament.
Part of the Nike Junior Series, the Stephen Ames Cup Qualifier saw a small but enthusiastic field of boys and girls take to the championship layout that has hosted many top events.
A couple regional golfers enjoyed success over the weekend including Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls in the Girls 11-19 division. Henderson used a five birdie Sunday to shoot 71 and make up the two shot deficit she faced after round one. Her 149 (78-71) total earned her a a six shot vistory. First round leader Kiersten Klekner-Alt of Ottawa had to settle for 2nd place (76-79-155) while her sister Marlies (84-90-174) ended the weekend in the bronze position.
In the boys 15-19 Class Patrick Boudreault of Ottawa (81-78-159) snuck past Ryan Turner of Stittsville (82-78-160) by a single stroke to claim the crown. Nikolai Tolstoy of Quyon, Quebec was third (79-82-161).
The only non-local winner was in the Boys 14 and under Division where rounds of 79-76-155 earned William Blanchard of Rosemere, Quebec the title. He was five shots clear of 2nd place finisher Jon Pick of Ottawa (80-80-160) and ten shots ahead of 3rd place golfer Eric Marshall of Ottawa (87-78-165).
