Four Canadians Creep Closer to PGA Tour Cards

There were not a lot of big changes for the Canadians at the 2nd stage of PGA Tour Qualifying on Friday – four players remain clearly in the hunt to advance to final stage.

That road is over for two Canadians though as the site in Humble,Texas wrapped up today while the others will play out on Saturday.  In Texas Yohann Benson of Montreal and Danny Sahl of Alberta both closed with 75 to miss the required mark they needed to advance.  Benson had the best chance but fell two shots short.  A 73 would have earned him a spot in the finals.

The best site for Canadians was easily the Bear Creek Golf Club in Murrieta, California.  Three of the five Canadians there, Richard Lee, David MacKenzie, and Matt McQuillan (of Kingston, Ontario) all looking comfortable in the less than California-like weather there this week.  Cooler conditions with a little rain expected Saturday may play into their favour.  Lee is currently tied for 8th, McQuillan is in 10th, and MacKenzie has a share of 11th.  The top 20 players and ties at their site will advance to Final Stage.

Best Canadian rounds of the day go to Ted Brown (65) and Chris Baryla (66), respectively, who both put themselves in a good position with one round to play.  Brown is now tied fro 17th at his site in Panama City Beach, Florida, while Baryla is tied for 21st at Bayonet Creek in Seaside, California.

The final stage of PGA Tour Qualifying will take place on December 1-6th at the Orange County National Golf Club near Orlando, Florida.  There the top 25 players and ties will receive a full PGA Tour Card for 2011.  The next fifty players will be fully exempt on the Nationwide Tour.
