A sloppy back nine derailed Ottawa’s Brad Fritsch on Friday at the PGA TOUR’s Sony Open in Hawaii.
Even par for the tournament and one back of the projected cut line after 27 holes, Fritsch threw a 40 on the board on the closing holes at Waialae Country Club to finish at 76 on Friday. Combined with his opening 69 it put him six strokes outside of the score necessary to play the weekend.
The inward nine on Friday included two bogeys and a painful triple bogey on the 14th hole.
For the 2013-2014 season Fritsch has mixed two cuts and was forced to withdraw after he made the cut at the Frys.com Open.
He’ll make his next appearance at the Humana Challenge next week in La Quinta, California.
Fellow Canadian Mike Weir also missed the cut with a matching +5 total.
David Hearn of Brantford, Ontario moved on to the weekend after scores of 68 and 70.
