GAO Hosting Skills Combines For Junior Golfers

-Golf skill assessments open to all male and female junior golfers under the age of 17 in the York, Waterloo and Ottawa regions-

Uxbridge, ON – The Golf Association of Ontario (GAO) announced today the dates for the upcoming Under 17 Skills Combine events set to take place in the York, Waterloo and Ottawa regions. The initiative is part of a pilot project intended to broaden the reach of junior golf development programs in the province and establish new U17 regional development teams in Ontario.

The Skills Combine events are open to male and female junior golfers born after August 1, 1997 and will consist of a series of assessments in full swing, short game and physical fitness screening conducted by PGA of Canada regional and provincial coaches. By participating, golfers will be able to benchmark their game against other golfers of the same age, members of Team Ontario, and members of Team Canada. Each participant will come away from the Skills Combine with a full report on the skills tested and an individual scorecard.

Following each of the Skills Combine events, 12 athletes from each region will be selected to each regional team, forming Team York, Team Waterloo and Team Ottawa. Led by a head regional coach and strength and conditioning consultant, the regional teams will train from November through March and will compete against other regional teams in a competition during March Break.

“The GAO is excited about the launch of U17 regional development teams coming in the Waterloo, York and Ottawa regions,” said GAO Managing Director of Sport Mike Kelly. “This initiative is a critical element to our overall performance strategy which will engage and impact hundreds of young players, families and coaches across the province of Ontario.”

The testing will take approximately two hours for each golfer to complete, with two dates to choose from in each region. The fee to participate is $70.00 which includes the Skills Combine, report card, lunch and a registration gift.
