A number of Canadian Tour players finished their 4 day Windsor Roseland Charity Classic event on Sunday afternoon and then made their way to the Rideau View Country Club in Manotick, Ontario for the 11th Annual Rideau View Pro-Am with $25,000 in prize money for professionals.
Derek Gillespie, who is playing the 2012 Canadian Tour season on a medical exemption, has been a regular participant in the Rideau View Pro Am through the years. In April of 2011, Derek was involved in a car accident and suffered a broken femur, a punctured lung and five broken ribs. These conditions certainly weren’t in evidence at Rideau View as he walked the course while shooting the lights out on his way to the low score of 5 under par 67. A look at his score card featured 6 birdies, 1 bogie and 11 pars.
Derek is currently 11th on the Canadian Tour Order of Merit with $18,068.50 and his $10,000 cheque for first place certainly helps the bottom line.
“Awesome” was Derek’s assessment of the Rideau View Country Club’s Annual Pro Am which attracts many of the top Canadian Tour professionals as well as local Ottawa PGA professionals. He, along with the other participating professionals praised the course layout and conditioning as well as the entire organization for the pro-am.
Finishing in a tie for second place with scores of 2 under par 70 were Wes Heffernan and Matt Makinson followed by Web.com Tour member Brad Fritsch and his score of 1 under par 71.
The two-day event is run by the members who play a three-man best ball on the first day and then they play with the pros on the second day. Wally Brennan, Steve Ducat, Paul Sherratt, Steve Byrne and Rock Villeneuve were the members of the 2012 Pro-Am Invitational Committee.
Wally Brennan, Bruce Evans and Tom Larocque were the winning team in the event and they had Derek Gillespie as their golf professional.
Past Champions of the Rideau View Invitational Pro-Am include Graham Gunn, David Mathis, Jeff Quinney, Paul Sherratt, Brad Fritsch, Chris Learmonth, Lee Curry, Kent Eger, Craig Matthew and Scott Hawley.
