Go West Young Man…

The Royal Canadian Golf Association (RCGA) will host a press conference this morning – and I am hoping for some sort of surprise. The subject is scheduled to be the announcement of the venue for the 2011 RBC Canadian Open and if all indications have been correct then Vancouver’s Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club should get the call.

The 2006 through 2010 have or will have all been played within Ontario so it is certainly time for the Open to move outside those borders.

For months there has been a lot of unconfirmed speculation that Shaughnessy would get the nod for 2011 so after that formality is over I am hoping for some other nugget from today’s presser to spice things up a bit.

If not then a lot of already filed stories from the last few days will simply get a little polish and paraded back into the media.

Masters Notes

-Angel Cabrera was the first PING staffer to ever win The Masters. In doing so he used 14 of the companies clubs including a Tour-W TS (Thin-Sole) 60 degree wedge, ideal for the thin Augusta National lies.

-Flagstick “Rulebook Columnist” Dean Ryan said he had an amazing time working as a Rules Official at The Masters. “It was an incredible experience and it really is like another world there.” Ryan said he had plenty of ruling action on a variety of holes and was even standing right next to Phil Mickelson as he played his miracle approach to the 7th hole on Sunday. He also enjoyed a front row seat right behind champion Angel Cabrera at the Green Jacket ceremony.

As the RCGA Rules Committee Chair Ryan will also be patrolling the fairways at The Players Championship, U.S. Open, and Canadian Open in 2009.
