– A big congratulations to all the winners on Monday at the Ottawa Valley Golf Association Men’s Tournament of Champions played at Cedarhill GC in Nepean. A Class winner was Ron Dolinki of Smiths Falls who won in a playoff with Justin Riopelle after they both shot 71. The B Class Champions was Rolland Collette of Hautes Plaines with a 78 while Doug Harris of Camelot shot 80 to top the C Class. The Senior champion was Moe Proulx of Les Vieux Moulins who won in a playoff with Bill Mason of Mississippi GC. Each shot 75 in regulation.
– Two regional pros are competing in the PGA of Canada Assistants’ Championship this week at the Cherry Hill GC is southern Ontario. Alec Hubert of Royal Ottawa is ten back of the lead after an opening 77 while Bill Minkhorst of the Prescott Golf Club struggled to an 86. www.pgaofcanada.com for updates.
-Patti Hogeboom of Kingston is into the match play portion of the United States Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship. The 27 year-old Cataraqui member was two up in her first round match after just 7 holes as darkness fell and stopped play on Monday night. www.usga.org for updates. -In the United States Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship Trenton, Ontario native Rob Couture won his round of 64 match 6&5. He keeps his chances alive of winning both the Canadian and American Mid-Amateur titles in 2011. He won the Canadian title earlier in September at Coppinwood Golf Club in Goodwood, Ontario. He currently resides in Texas.
-Three pros from the region are trying their hand at Canadian Tour Qualifying in Burlington, Ontario this week. Julian James of Ottawa had a great round going early as he was three under par on his front nine and tied for the lead. Unfortunately the wheels fell off for the former Canadian Tour member and he finished with a 6 over par score of 77 to drop into a tie for 47th place. Ryan Ellis of Cumberland, Ontario shares 35th place after round one of four with a opening score of 74. Kingston’s Brad Revell was one better at 73 and is tied for 27th spot. Revell is currently a Tour member but sits 102nd on the Order of Merit with one 2011 tournament left to play. -Kurtis Barkley, a member at the Cedar Glen Golf Club in Williamsburg, repeated as the Upper Canada Open Champion on Saturday, September 17th. Barkley posted nine hole scores of 39 and 33 on his way to shooting 72 at the Upper Canada Golf Course to win the Open Championship for the second straight year.
