Ken Holmes, a private contractor, is a VIP Partner at The Marshes Golf Club in the West end of Ottawa. Over the course of the summer, Ken achieved three of what many golfers are looking to record on an ongoing basis. For the past twenty years, he has been an active golfer in the Ottawa area and has come close but never achieved the ultimate goal for a golfer – a hole in one.
That changed in July when his tee shot with an 8 iron on the 8th hole at The Marshes flew to the back fringe of the green and spun back down the slope and into the cup. That was one.
Three weeks later on the same hole just after taking a big number on the 7th hole, Ken used his 8 iron once again and hit what he thought was a fairly nice shot, but blinded by the sun neither he nor his golfing partners could follow the end destination of the tee shot. As he approached the green, Ken saw a ball mark three yards short of the cup, walked over and picked his ball out of the cup for hole-in-one number 2.
Early in October, Ken completed the hat-trick on hole # 15 at The Marhes when unseen by his fellow competitors and himself, his tee shot with his hybrid club was retrieved from the cup.
That’s quite a summer and when asked, Ken had no explanation for his success but did say, “I enjoy the game and love to watch the flight of my golf shots as they fly through the air. Each shot is an extension of your inner spirit. “As with most golfers, Ken Holmes looks for that one good shot each game which will bring him back to the golf course again.
Not too bad for a golfer who in his teenage years had little or no use for the game of golf.
I guess that he now eagerly awaits each game of golf as he looks for the next perfect shot.
