Gunn Wins PGA of Ottawa Senior Championship

What a day Monday at Mississippi Golf Club in Carleton Place, Ontario.

It was hot, but the PGA of Ottawa Senior golf professionals stuck it out assisted by a light breeze. That was fine until the thunderstorm that hit the Ottawa area created havoc on the course. Trees were toppled on the course and hailstones littered the greens while thunder and lightning forced the last three groups off the course.

After a one hour delay, play resumed and the final three groups finished their lengthy games of golf.

After the scores were tallied by PGA of Ottawa Executive Director Harry Hereford, prizes were distributed. The Stan Kolar Trophy was awarded for the 4th time to Graham Gunn from the White Sands Golf Course & Practice Centre in

Orleans, Ontario by Marie Kolar. Graham shot a fine score of 66 on the par 72 golf course. Runner-up in the 55-59 age group was Ottawa Hunt’s Dave Kalil with his score of 69.

Cedarhill’s Barry Laphen led the seniors aged 60-69 with a score of 71 followed by PGA of Canada member Andre Harvey. In the elder senior group, Don Renaud finished in first place with a score of 78 followed by Larry McCauley’s 84.
