Henderson Ends Year At Top Of National Rankings

Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, Ontario is ending 2013 on top.  The high school student has been announced as the both the top Amateur and Junior female golfer in the country by Golf Canada, according to their National Order of Merit, presented by Under Armour.

The sixteen year-old, who also happens to be the No. 9 ranked female amateur in the world, had a spectacular season highlighted by a win at the Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship.  She also picked up top prize at the South American Amateur, CN Future Links Pacific Championship and was part of the successful Copa des las Americas winning team.

At the pro level Brooke turned in two top-3 finishes on the CN Canadian Women’s Tour and made the cut in two of three LPGA Tour appearances.  That included a tie for 59th at the United States Women’s Open Championship.

Eastern Ontario’s Augusta James of Bath, Ontario joined Brooke in the top 5.  She ended the season as the 4th ranked female amateur golfer in Canada.

On the men’s side of the National Rankings, it was a Copas des las Americas team-mate of Henderson and James, Corey Conners of Listowel, Ontario, who finished the season in top position.

Conners, a junior at Kent State, is currently ranked 41st in the World Amateur Rankings.  His 2013 highlights included a 2nd place finish at the Canadian Men’s Amateur and reaching the semi-finals at the United States Amateur Championship.

Joining Henderson at the top of the Junior Rankings, but on the Boys’ side was Kevin Kwon of British Columbia.
