Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls and Augusta James of Bath, Ontario are near the top of the leaderboard after day one of The Royale Cup Canadian Junior Girls Golf Championship.
Henderson, 13, shot even par 73 at the QClub in Richmond, British Columbia and has a share of 7th place. She is just three strokes back of leader Jisoo Keel. Keel, of Coquitlam, B.C., was bogey free in her opening round and leads both the overall and Juvenile competition.
Incredibly, at age 15, Keel is already playing in her 8th Canadian Junior Girls’ Championship. Her best finish was 11th place in 2008. As the second place finisher in the CN Canadian Women’s Tour Order of Merit she has already qualified for the CN Canadian Women’s Open later this month.
Also contending at the championship is 18 year-old Augusta James of Bath, Ontario. James, the winner of the 2010 Ontario Junior and 2011 Ontario Amateur, shares 11th place after an opening round of one over par, 74.
