Henderson, James Well Back at CN Canadian Women’s Open

As 15-time LPGA Tour winner Yani Tseng holds the 1st round lead after a 66, Eastern Ontario amateurs Augusta James and Brooke Henderson will need a very big Friday in order to be around for the weekend at the CN Canadian Women’s Open.

James, of Bath, Ontario and currently in her second year at North Carolina State, shot 75 (+3) at the Vancouver Golf Club on Thursday and shares 97th place.

Meanwhile, 14 year-old Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, in her LPGA debut, had trouble on the greens on her way to shooting 77. Henderson required 38 putts in the 1st round.  She is 11 shots off the lead and in a tie for 123rd place as she starts round two.

“It was a little rough,” said Henderson when asked to describe her 1st round as the youngest player to ever compete in the CN Canadian Women’s Open. “I struggled on the greens today but hopefully I’ll get a little more used to them on the putting green and be more aware of the slopes around them. They were pretty fast on some of them.”

Charlottetown, P.E.I. native Lorie Kane is the low Canadian through 18 holes of play and is tied for 31st spot at even-par 72.
