The Smiths Falls sensation is at it again. Sixteen year-old Brooke Henderson, fresh off a recent win at the Jr. Orange Bowl Championship in Florida is making noise in that state once again.
The 2013 Canadian Women’s Amateur Champion and Team Canada member is leading the prestigious South Atlantic Amateur, affectionately known as “The Sally” after an opening round of 67 on Wednesday.
Her five under par round over the Oceanside Country Club in Ormond Beach, Florida gives her a three stroke lead over two other players. Her round included seven birdies.
Henderson, currently ranked #6 among female amateur golfers in the world has come good company this week. Older sister Brittany is on-hand to caddy, just as she did for her sibling at last year’s United States Women’s Open. Brooke made the cut at that major, one of her three appearances on the LPGA Tour in 2013.
The field at The Sally will be flighted after two rounds with with another thirty-six holes to follow. The 72-hole event concludes on Saturday.
