Golf History Made With First Ottawa GAO Qualifier

Daniel Lwow and Ken Thompson, the successful Ontario Amateur Qualifiers at Greensmere GC

History was made in the Ottawa Valley today – May 31, 2012 – with the first Golf Association of Ontario (GAO) tournament run in the Ottawa Valley on the Premiere Course at the Greensmere Golf Club in the west end of the City of Ottawa.

Fourteen GAO golfers were entered in the Investors Group Men’s Ontario Amateur Qualifying tournament run by the Ottawa Valley Golf Association. A number of golf clubs located in the Ottawa Valley in Ontario recently switched from Golf Quebec to the GAO.

Earning spots in the Ontario Amateur on July 10-13 at the Summit Golf Club today were Cedarhill Golf & Country Club member Daniel Lwow with a fine round of 73 and Glen Lawrence Golf Club member Ken Thompson with a score of 74. Both winners were excited to be the first winners of a GAO event held in Ottawa.

Marc Ffrench, despite also shooting 74, lost the qualifying to Thompson through the GAO tie-breaking process.

Ffrench and Bowie Abbie-Mills will be eligible for a Final Qualifying prior to the Championship.

Congratulations go out to all of the participants in the first of many Golf Association of Ontario events to be held in the Ottawa Valley.
