Patti Hogeboom says she had a sloppy finish on Wednesday, one she blames on being a little unfocused, but it turned out to be enough effort for a lead after round one of the Ontario Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship. “I left a lot out there,” she explained via Twitter immediately after her round.
The twenty-seven year-old graduate of Augusta State, and reigning club champion at Kingston’s Cataraqui G&CC shot 73 (1 over par) at Thornhill Golf & Country Club, two better than Judith Kyrinis of the host club. Along with Gail Pimm of Mill Run GC they were the only three players to break eighty in the first of three rounds in the championship that will conclude.
Eastern Ontario golfers also sit in fourth and fifth place, respectively. Nadio Ayoub, a Public Player who lives in Kingston, is 4th at 80, while Susan Pearl of Ottawa (RideauView CC) is tied for fifth at 81.
Later this month Hogeboom will head south to Virginia to compete in the United States Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship. She won her qualifier in New Jersey last month.
