Howie Wins CJGA Nike Championship at Smugglers Glen

Mike Doyon of Nike Golf Canada (second from left) poses with the CJGA Nike Junior Golf Championship winners

Despite very gusty conditions Ottawa’s Grace Howie put on a strong performance on Wednesday in the third and final round if the Canadian Junior Golf Association Nike Golf Junior Championship.  With a limited field only consisting of the top CJGA players from across the country, competition was stiff at Smuggler’s Glen Golf Course but the winners, including Howie, proved why they are players capable of winning championships.

Howie, who now plays out of RideauView Country Club, added a final round of 76 to complete a ten stroke victory.  Howie’s day was highlighted by steady play including birdies on two of the last three holes.  She also made some critical putts including a lengthy one for par of the par four, 11th hole.

Joining Howie as a winner in the event was Jordan Lu of Vancouver in the Boys 14 & Under Division.  He shot 72, 73, and 71 for the championship.

The winner in the Boys’ 15-19 category was Colton Kalkanis of Hillsdale, Ontario.

Nike Golf Canada representative Mike Doyon was on hand to present awards to the champions.
