James, Henderson Advance To Match Play At Carnoustie

Brooke Henderson and Augusta James have qualified for the Match Play portion of the Ladies British Open Amateur Championship.

Playing on the Championship Course at the Carnoustie Golf Links on the east coast of Scotland both players were part of a Canadian contingent that found success on one of the toughest layouts in the world.  Six of the seven Canadians playing in the Championship Qualifying will move on to match play after the two stroke play rounds concluded on Wednesday.

Henderson, part of the National Development Team, shot 76, 76 to earn the 21st seed for match play.  The Smiths Falls native is just 14 years old but is coming off a win on the CN Canadian Women’s Tour, becoming the youngest winner ever of a professional golf tournament.

Augusta James of Bath, Ontario, and a member of the National Team, earned the 33rd seed for match play.  The 19 year-old is coming off her freshman year at North Carolina State University where she was named the ACC Conference Freshman of the year.  In 2011 she won the Ontario Amateur Championship.
