Lee-Bentham Leads Canadians at LPGA Q-School

In cool and windy conditions Rebecca Lee-Bentham had a remarkable round Wednesday in the first of five at the LPGA Tour Final Qualifying in Daytona Beach, Florida.

She shot three under par, 69, in her opening loop at LPGA International Golf Club. It puts her one stroke off the lead and in a tie for fourth with four rounds to play.

Only Barrie, Ontario’s Stephanie Sherlock joined her under par within the group of eight Canadian contenders.  Sherlock posted a round of -1 to share 20th.

The other Canucks are well back and will need to make up a lot of ground.

Izzy Beisiegel, Sue Kim, Seema Sadekar, and Samantha Richdale each came in with 76 (+4) and are tie for 79th to begin round two.

Kirby Dreher of British Columbia tallied 78 while Ashley Sholer of Hamilton turned in an 80.

Players who finish within the top-40 and those players tied for 40th place will receive LPGA membership for the 2013 LPGA Tour season (20 full cards). All other players participating in Stage III will receive 2013 Symetra Tour membership.

The tournament wraps up on Sunday.  Live scoring is available at this link.
