They came, they saw, and they did not conquer.
The Loch March Golf & Country Club proved to be a stern test for the best junior-aged female golfers in Ontario on Tuesday as round one of the provincial championship got underway.
This is the first time the Golf Association of Ontario has hosted the Investors Group Ontario Junior Girls’ Championship in the National Capital Region. By all accounts the girls have received a warm welcome but the course itself was a little less friendly to them for the first of four scheduled rounds.
Alyssa Getty and Chloe Currie lead the way after opening rounds of 75, 3 over par. Each played the course in opposite fashion. Currie was over par on the front side (39) and even on the back (36) while Getty was level through the front and took the damage to her card on the back nine.
Currie is seeking her second provincial win in the Ottawa area. Last August the Port Credit golfer was the wire-to-wire winner at the Ontario Bantam Girls’ Championship hosted at the Canadian Golf & Country Club.
Only twelve payers were able to break 80 in round one.
The second round of play will begin Wednesday at 7:15 a.m.
