Kanata's John Haime will be a guest speaker at the 2011 PGA of America Teaching & Coaching Summit

Come late January one Ottawa area man will be in pretty good company at the PGA of America’s Teaching and Coaching Summit.

John Haime of Kanata recently received an invitation from the PGA of America to share his knowledge at the 2011 event that will be held on January 23 and 24th in Orlando, Florida.

Haime, who spent many years as a professional golfer on a variety of tours before embarking on a successful business career, will join Simon Jenkins and Rick Jensen to address attendees about “Mental Facets That Improve Overall Performance.”  The former co-medalist of the Canadian Tour Q-School has extensive experience as a corporate performance coach (LearningLinks), authored “You Are A Contender”, and is the President of New Edge Performance ( .  The heart of New Edge Performance is an in-depth tool that athletes can use to assess certain abilities and use it to advance their performance.

Based on extensive research and scientific testing over the past five years with some of the world’s top athletes in Europe, Australia and the United States, the Emotional Intelligence Sports Inventory (ESi) consists of an on-line assessment tool and complementary coaching approach. New Edge Performance has partnered with the ESi’s authors, leading Australian Emotional Intelligence firm RocheMartin, to prepare the tool for market and launch it in North America and abroad.

New Edge recently partnered with the PGA of Europe who is promoting the tool extensively among their membership.  Among the supporters of the tool is Steve Bann, the coach to 2010 PGA Tour Comeback Player of The Year, Stuart Appleby.

Haime says he was honoured to be included in the Summit and even more so since it recognizes that New Edge Performance has something positive to offer to the PGA golf professionals attending the summit.

“(It’s) just fun to be a part of it,” Haime told us via email.  “(I’m) looking forward to learning some things and hoping to help coaches/professionals improve their coaching models by adding tools like the ESi. The mental/emotional game is a big part of golf – and there are really no simple, practical tools for coaches and professionals to improve this part of the game.”

Haime, who also happens to the be the son of long-time CPGA pro Peter Haime and the brother of 2000 Canadian PGA Teacher of the Year, Kevin Haime, will be among a group of renowned speakers at the summit.  He joins of a line-up of presenters that ranges from Golf Channel staple Michael Breed to 6-time Major Championship winner Sir Nick Faldo.  Additional speakers include Bobby Clampett, Bob Toski, Lou Holtz, and Dr. Gary Wiren.

We will have an in-depth story on the Emotional Intelligence Sports Inventory (ESi) early in January.  That will include a review from the perspective of a golfer completing the survey and applying the feedback to their own coaching plan.
