McIntosh and Kim Share Early Lead at Ontario Juvenile Boys’ Championship

Bath, ON (GOLF ASSOCIATION OF ONTARIO) – Two golfers are tied atop the leaderboard after first round action at the Ontario Juvenile Boys’ Championship hosted by Loyalist Country Club in Bath, Ontario. London resident Brett McIntosh, 16, and 15-year-old John Youn Sung Kim of Toronto carded identical two-under par 70’s to the lead the field of Ontario’s best junior golfers age 16 and younger.

McIntosh, a member at Greenhills Golf Club, carded six birdies against four bogeys to share the lead heading into Wednesday’s second round. Kim, a member of Team Ontario, marked five birdies and a trio of birdies to close out his first day of competition in the 54-hole event.

Four golfers are tied for third place a stroke behind the lead pair; Team Ontario member Taewon Kim of Richmond Hill, David French of Camlachie, Ontario, Matthew Scobie of Ajax, and local resident Josh Whalen of Napanee. All four finished at 71, one-under par. Scott Banks of Oakville and Tyler Gruza of Ancaster are tied for seventh, two strokes off the pace at even par.

The field of 64 golfers will take to the course Wednesday morning for the second round, after which a cut will be made to the low 40 golfers and ties. Tee times begin at 8:40 am.
