Kingston’s Matt McQuillan made birdies on 5 of his last 10 holes (3 of the last 4) Friday to shoot 66 in his 4th round of 1st stage PGA Tour Qualifying in McKinney, Texas. After a bogey on his first hole of the day McQuillan has a clean card marked with 7 birdies on total on his way to the clubhouse.
McQuillan finished at -12 (68-73-69-66) and tied for 11th place to successfully advance to 2nd stage qualifying that will be held in mid-November at 5 sites around the United States. The top 18 players and tied advanced at a score of -10 and better.
In Lakeland, Florida Ottawa-born Scott Hawley will not advance to 2nd stage. Hawley, who now calls Massachusetts home, shot 288 for his 1st stage tournament to finish well back of qualifying.
