It was a Jekyll & Hyde kind of day for Kingston’s Matt McQuillan at the Farmers Insurance Open in San Diego.  The tour rookie shot 74 in his third PGA Tour start, a mix of scoring as he posted 40 on his opening nine holes and rolled into the clubhouse by closing with 34 on his back nine.

McQuillan, who played alongside Dave Mathis and Jim Herman on Thursday, was four after par after his first four holes but fought his way pack with the help of four birdies on the North Course at Torrey Pines, the harder of the two courses in the rotation this week by almost two full strokes.

On Friday McQuillan will start the day in a tie for 113rd place and will need a solid round to make the 36-hole cut.  He will tee off on the South Course from the 1st tee at 9:10 a.m. Pacific.

Sung Hoon Kang leads the tournament at a score of eight under par.
