A special message from the Mechanical Contractors Association of Ottawa (MCA Ottawa) after their recent golf tournament…

“The Mechanical Contractors Association of Ottawa (MCA Ottawa) is a not-for-profit association representing approximately 70 local unionized mechanical contractors and roughly 30 associate members (mechanical wholesalers and suppliers).  MCA Ottawa promotes training and education initiatives for improved quality, enhanced safety, and overall advancement of the construction industry.

MCA Ottawa also believes in giving back to the community.  Their major fundraising initiative is the annual MCA charity golf tournament at the Greyhawk Golf club.  Ten years ago, MCA Ottawa decided to dedicate funds raised from this golf day to the Food Aid Program of the Ottawa Food Bank.  These funds allow the Food Aid Program to purchase locally grown and processed beef which is frozen into 1lb packages for distribution through the Ottawa Food Bank to those in need in our community.

This year’s tournament had a record number of participants and raised $52,500.  Over the past 10 years, this one day charity event has raised over $400,000 for the – Food Aid Program. This contribution has allowed the Ottawa Food Bank to purchase and distribute nearly 900,000 lbs of ground beef to families and individuals in need via its partner agencies throughout Ottawa.

Funds are raised through golf sponsorships – this year’s major sponsor was Modern Niagara, gold sponsors were S&R Mechanical, Dilfo Mechanical, Bibby Ste-Croix, and Trane.  Funds are also raised through the post-golf charity auctions.  Auction gifts are generously donated by members, associate members and the ClubLink group.   Some of the donated items are sold off via silent auction style and some gifts are sold off in an exciting fast-paced live auction by the passionate and always funny auctioneer Alain Lalonde.

MCA Ottawa is thrilled to be able to promote the Food Aid initiative and help to raise much needed funds for others in our community.  Last year, MCA Ottawa was honoured by the Association of Fundraising Professionals as Ottawa’s Outstanding Philanthropic Group of 2014.

MCA Ottawa is extremely grateful for all the support of those who ensure this annual charity event continues to be an overwhelming success. Mary Gauthier, General Manager of MCA Ottawa and Peter Jowsey, Chairman of MCA Ottawa’s Special Events Committee, would especially like to thank the following:

CFRA for their support of our charity tournament and of the Food Aid Program in general.

Greyhawk golf course catering staff, grounds crew and volunteers for their consistent superlative service and attention to detail.

The great folks at the Ottawa Food Bank with whom MCA Ottawa now enjoys a special bond and friendship.

Bernie Deslauriers of Boone Plumbing who MCs the after-golf dinner and speeches

The Suppliers of the great auction items (special shout-out to long-time supporter Larry Murray of Len Murray Supply).

The Volunteers who tirelessly perform their duties behind the scenes and ensure the event is an enjoyable trouble-free day.

All of our mechanical contractor members and associate members who turn out in droves every July to give so generously to support such a great cause.”
