Many people are aware of the connection between Ottawa’s Sir Terry Matthews and the 2010 Ryder Cup but not everyone is aware that a number of National Capital businesses, including Mitel, were involved in one of the world’s biggest sporting events.
Mitel, a leading provider of unified communications software solutions, provided the IP Telephony System for the 2010 Ryder Cup that took place at the Celtic Manor Resort in Wales and concludes today with the singles matches. Mitel’s solution supported onsite event staff, media, and hospitality facilities across the site.
With a huge demand for up-to-the-minute broadcast of score updates, Mitel delivered a real-time visual application that provided all handset users with player score updates on the Mitel 5360 IP Phones throughout the venue. This innovative custom scoreboard application for the 2010 Ryder Cup wass be deployed on all of the 5360 IP Phones at the event allowing users to view match scoring on a large color touch screen.
“Mitel’s offerings are ideally suited to the challenging demands of the Ryder Cup,” said Graham Gifford, Director of Information and Communications Technology for the Ryder Cup. “The mix of innovation, reliability, and mobility is a key requirement for an event of this magnitude. By selecting Mitel, we have been able to ensure that our voice communication needs are covered at all points.”
While being a part of the event is a major achievment, it was not without it’s challenges.
“The Ryder Cup’s quick build up and tear down make it a unique challenge,” said Graham Bevington, EMEA Managing Director, Mitel. “The technology has to be ready to go, perform flawlessly, and connect many locations and functions. Our commitment to the Ryder Cup to provide an infrastructure that guarantees uptime and mobility for voice communications, and works with the other technologies in place at and surrounding the event, is something we look forward to carrying out during the tournament.”
