It may be December but the golf world now churns 365 days a year. Today’s updates –
There is less than a month now before we learn the fate of Ottawa’s PineView Municipal Golf Course. The deadline for proposals for those looking to take over the lease from the City of Ottawa passed on December 6th. Unconfirmed word is that from the twenty parties that requested the RFP documents only three bids were submitted.
The National Capital Commission, who owns the PineView property, is scheduled to name the winning bidder on January 13th. If they do not find any of the bids acceptable the City of Ottawa will resume operations.

In other municipal golf news, the City of Kingston approved their annual budget this week. It included a provision for operating the Belle Park Fairways municipal golf course, which was under threat of closure. The city had cited the expense of operating the course as a problem in trying to keep annual tax increase in line with their goal of 2.5%. Apparently they found a way to meet that goal while budgeting for the golf course operations, including a small increase in that budget.
Belle Park Fairways will live into 2014…beyond that remains to be seen.
Two Ontario golfers were among those achieving significant status on the WEB.COM Tour through the recent Qualifying School.
Albin Choi of Toronto finished in a tie for 15th and will be exempt on the tour through the 1st eight events when he will be subject to reshuffle. Cam Burke of New Hamburg has the same status, although he will be slightly lower in the priority rankings after finishing tied for 22nd.
If so you might want to check out the Shilla Hotel in Seoul which features its own indoor driving range. Amenities on the range include five doppler radar based TrackMan launch monitors.
The premium branded properties recently did a massive renovation at their Seoul hotel and the addition of the indoor range was a must in a golf mad country.
I know I’d pay a premium to stay at a hotel where I could access such facilities. Would you?
