New Venue for Scotiabank Serge Giroux Golf Dream Classic

The Marshes Golf Club will be the new home of the ScotiaBank Serge Giroux Dream Classic

The major charity initiative for the Ottawa PGA will have a new look, new sponsorship, a new format, a new location and a new date this year. The Marshes Golf Club has secured the rights to host and present the Scotiabank Serge Giroux Golf Dream Classic for the next three years.

The event will remain an Ottawa PGA initiative and the zone will still be responsible for helping to find teams and professionals for the event as well as coordinating the trip for families later in the year.

What won’t change is the goal of Ottawa golf professionals to raise funds to send selected children with life-threatening illnesses and their families to Orlando, Florida for a “Golf Dream Vacation”.

The Scotiabank Serge Giroux Golf Dream Classic will be held on Tuesday, May 21 at The Marshes Golf Club in Kanata. Participants will receive a lunch, a game of golf on Terry Matthews’ Championship Golf Course designed by Robert Trent Jones, a reception and food station dining in the evening. An added bonus will see CTV’s J. J. Clark, an Honorary Director of the Ottawa PGA, involved as the Master of Ceremonies. Participants will also be able to bid on between 75 and 100 auction items.

The format for the event has changed this year with the golf professionals playing their own ball and the four amateurs in the group playing a scramble.

Joining Ottawa PGA Executive Director Harry Hereford and John Haime – liaison with CHEO, on the organizing committee are The Marshes General Manager Tony Dunn, Dave Ready and The Marshes Head Professional Andrew Donaldson. Dave Ready is well known in the Ottawa area for his past association with CHEO and Roger’s House. Now in retirement although he has his own consulting company, Mr. Ready told Flagstick, “I like the charity and I have a relationship with the golf professionals in the Ottawa area. It’s a perfect fit for me and I’m glad to help out.”

Through their various contacts, Mr. Dunn and Mr. Ready have secured numerous sponsorships for the event. Scotiabank has come on board as a major sponsor, while Randy Graham of Snelling Paper & Sanitation, who has been a fixture at this event for many years, is on board as the Presenting Sponsor.  Other sponsors who have come on board for this inaugural event at The Marshes to, in Mr. Dunn’s words, “…step the charity event up a level”, are the Dairy Farmers of Canada; Royal LePage – Gale Real Estate; Grey, Clark, Shih and Associates; Car Canada and the Ottawa PGA.

According to Mr. Dunn, “We will be sending two families to Orlando, Florida in 2013 and we believe we will be able to send more families in the future.”

“The Marshes is a great venue and the Ottawa Zone of the PGA of Canada is looking forward to this new partnership,” said Luke Saunders, Ottawa PGA President.  “The Ottawa PGA is pleased that through this partnership we will be able to continue to send children with life-threatening illnesses and their families on a Dream Vacation as we have since 2001.”
