The Ottawa Athletic Club (OAC) Golf School has another location at Hylands Golf Club in the south part of the city for instruction and clinics. Flagstick caught up with OAC Director of Golf Colin Orr who spoke about their Hylands Golf Club Location.
“We were contacted and had meetings with the new General Manager Matt Clitheroe,” Orr, a long-time PGA of Canada professional, shared. “Jean Pilon is also the new head professional at Hylands. We came to a mutual understanding that it would be great for the OAC to run the teaching program here at Hylands.”
Orr says being at a military facility is somewhat familiar ground for him. “We’re very excited to be here. I’ve been in the Ottawa area since I was 15 and I know a lot about Hylands. I have a tremendous respect for the military as my father and grandfather were both military men, so I’m excited to be here. We’re looking to put some new programs together and do some things a little bit different from how they’ve been run in the past and we hope to make the experience even better for Hylands’ members.”
To handle teaching duties at the club a very experienced team has been assembled, Orr shares.
“Our team at Hylands includes myself, Dave Powell, Luke Saunders and from last year’s staff at Hylands, Penny Simkins, who is doing a tremendous job and the members really love her a lot.
We’re still at Falcon Ridge and we run our kids camps there. We really like Falcon Ridge. It’s a great facility for the kids and we’re still giving private lessons there as well.
But this is where we’re going to spend our summer and hopefully do a lot of lessons improving the games of Hylands’ members.”
