Brad Fritsch recovered from a slow start on Friday to come back and breeze past the 36-hole cut line at the Web.com Tour Winn-Dixie Jacksonville Open presented by Planters.
After recording a two under par 68 in round one the pro who was raised in the Ottawa area and still is a member at Rideauview was a little rough in the early going Friday.
Starting the day in a tie for 15th Brad made bogeys on 2 of his first 5 holes in round two.
On his back nine (the front at Dye’s Valley Course at TPC Sawgrass) he recovered with a three birdie run in six holes. A bogey on his 17th hole (#8) left him at even par for the day on the tough course where few players can avoid trouble.
At 2 under par total Brad is tied for 20th heading into the weekend and just four strokes back of the solo lead of B.J. Staten.
At 22nd on the Web.com Tour money list and needing to be in the top 25 at the conclusion of next week’s Tour Championship in Texas, a top ten finish this week would likely solidify Brad’s position and earn his a PGA Tour card for 2013.
He has earned $172, 368 on on the Web.com Tour this season. That puts him about $12,000 ahead of the 25th player on the money list and just over $14,000 back of the 20th spot.
The players at 25, 24, 28, 30, and 36th on the list are currently ahead of Brad after 36 holes in Ponte Vedra Beach. Strong play over the week could nullify any of their efforts to catch him.
Fritsch tees off for round three at 10:31 Eastern on Saturday. He will play alongside Troy Merritt and Joseph Bramlett.
