Ottawa, Ontario, September 7, 2010: They came in pursuit of team superiority and in the end the squad from the Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club were overjoyed to be presented with the John Holzman Trophy right in their own backyard.

Their defence of the title they won in 2009 could not have went any better as they got out to an early start and kept their foot on the gas throughout the day.  Facing teams from Rivermead Golf Club, Outaouais Golf Club, and Renfrew Golf Club, the veteran team from the Ottawa Hunt Club was eager to fight for a victory and were able to do so on the sun-soaked fairways of their venerable golf clubs South and West courses.

“It is a tremendous feeling and honour to win the John Holzman Trophy for the second year in a row,” said Ottawa Hunt Team Captain Barry Fournier after the last putt had dropped.  “We can’t host next year (teams cannot host more than two years in a row per OVGA regulations) but we will be very proud to defend the title.”  Outaouais Golf Club will host the A Section in 2011.

The Ottawa Hunt team got off to a strong start in the first four matches – momentum that seemed to carry them through the day.  Ray Dainty set the tone for the Ottawa Hunt Club team after he earned six points in the opening match.  His team-mates, Gary Beech and Ron Kiggins soon followed with six points each of their own. “The three guys earning six points early seemed to boost the spirits for the rest of the team,” commented the team Captain.

Mike Gerrior also added six points for the Ottawa Hunt team who eventually tallied 36 points on the day.

The battle for second place was much tighter as the Outaouais Team narrowly surpassed the squad from Rivermead by just a single point – 24 to 23.  Larry Lucas and Gaston Payer won the full six points in their matches for Outaouais while Wayne Harrison was the sole six-pointer for Rivermead.

The Renfrew Golf Club team tallied just 13 points on the day and will drop down the B Section for 2011.

Members of the winning team for the Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club were: Ray Dainty, Ron Kiggins, Peter Foley, Gary Beech, Mike Gerrior, Ron Jack, Tom Charlton, and Chris Jones.  Alternates were Jim Wright and Wally Langley.  The Team Captain was Barry Fournier with Rick Bennett as the Assistant Captain.
