The third round of the Ottawa Valley Golf Association’s 2022 City and District Championships for Men and Women was played on the championship golf course at the Royal Ottawa Golf Club on Wednesday, July 27th.

Under perfect weather conditions on a manicured course, OVGA Players making the cut to the third round enjoyed their day, some more than others.

Haley Yerxa from the Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club continued her 3-day dominance of this year’s 100th Anniversary of the Women’s City & District Championship. Entering the final round she had an 8-stroke lead over Diane Dolan and Lise Jubinville from the Hylands Golf Club. Her final round score of 71 gave her a 3-day total of 225 and the championship win.

Finishing in 2nd place was Hylands’ Diane Dolan (77-239) followed by Hylands team-mate Lise Jubinville (80-242). Alone in 4th place was Royal Ottawa’s Avery Mack (84-252) followed by Rideau View’s Susan Pearl (85-254) in 5th place.

Flagstick talked to the 2nd time champion as she had also won the championship in 2020 and asked her about her game over the three days.

“It was really great that we got to play three rounds this year, especially finishing at the Royal Ottawa one of the best tracks in the city. It was a lot of fun. My playing competitors were all great to play with and I had a really good time. It was my last tournament of the summer so it was fun to finish with a win.”

Note: Haley is transferring to Georgia Southern University in the Fall where she’s taking her masters. She has two years of golf eligibility left and will be on the Georgia Southern University Eagles team.

Renfrew Golf Club’s Stephane Pare was awarded the Gerald Lees Trophy after he posted a score of 74 at Royal Ottawa to finish in 1st place with a three-day total score of 213. His Renfrew team-mate Jonah O’Connor shot 75 to move into second place with his three-day total score of 218. One stroke back after shooting a 79 on his home course was Brendan Kuffner who tied with Jaeger Prot, which remarkably gave Renfrew Golf Club players in the the 1, 2, and 3 positions. Royal Ottawa’s Max Lizondo and Mathis Rollin of Rockland tied for 5th place. Dwight Reinhart from the Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club shot 77 for a total score of 221 for 7th place.

Flagstick talked to Stephane after he had been announced as the 2022 OVGA “A” Class City & District Champion and asked him about his win.

“It’s my first OVGA win since I was a junior. I won the City & District Juvenile Championship in 2010. Over the three days I was hitting my driver very well and I haven’t hit my long irons like that in a while. My putting was also very consistent over the three days. Rockland was very nice but the greens were a bit slow and hard to get used to. Renfrew is my home course and it was in mint condition. Just to be able to play on a course like this (Royal Ottawa) is an honor. That was my goal just to play the third round here. So I reached more than my goal, I think.”

Congratulations to Haley and Stephane on their wins and all of the players who made it to the third round of the OVGA City & District Championships.
