The Ottawa PGA hosted the 2012 Ontario Junior Team Championships at the Perth Golf Club on Monday through Wednesday, August 27-29. Each year a different Junior Tour is called upon to host the championship and judging by the sea of enthusiastic young faces, these junior golfers enjoyed their visit to the Perth, Ontario area.
After a practice session full of rain on Monday, it was down to business with two rounds of medal or stroke play competition on Tuesday. The individual medalists for low rounds on the day were Alyssa Getty from the Jamieson Team with a score of 76 in the junior girls division, Durham’s Sam Meek with a score of 77 in the bantam boys division and Nicholas Ross from the Hamilton-Halton team with a score of 68.
Four-Ball competition was the order of the day on Wednesday. In the junior girl’s competition, the Jamieson Team of Alyssa Getty and Sara Holland walked away with the first place medals. Sam Meek and Sean Trapp from the Durham team placed first in the bantam boys division and the junior boys division was won by the Hamilton-Halton team of Callum Biehn, Daniel Knapp, Nicholas Ross and Craig Stefureak.
Medal winners from the local area were James Parsons and Christopher Carwardine with a tie for third place in the bantam boys four-ball and the Evolution St. Lawrence boys team of Jamieson Hough, Noah Steele, Adam Searle and Peter Beneteau with a tie for third place in the junior boys four-ball.
The other Evolution St. Lawrence team members were Abbie Anghelescu and Kiley Rodrigues. Robyn Campbell, Julia Malone, Cooper Brown, Jordan Carr, Sadler Kubiseski and Jonah O’Connor were also part of the Ottawa PGA team.
Sponsor Robert Langevin, representing Humber College’s Professional Golf Management Program, also conducted a draw for two Scotty Cameron putters.
After the awards presentations, all of the junior golfers were treated to a lunch before they headed for home along with their parents and team leaders.
