PGA of Ottawa Hands Out Awards

On October 22nd at the Brookstreet Hotel in Kanata, PGA of Ottawa members were in attendance to acknowledge the 2013 award winners in the Ottawa zone.

The first order of business was the presentation to outgoing zone president Luke Saunders of his President’s jacket and then the warm welcome given to Mississippi Golf Club’s Dan Kolar as the incoming President.

Zone Captain Greg Chambers then acted as Master of Ceremonies for the recognition of the 2013 flagstick.com Players Tour champions and Mr. Kolar took over the microphone to announce individual award winners.

Winners on the 2013 flagstick.com Players Tour were James Sperinck (Camelot) – Golf Trends Spring Open; Chris Barber (The Landings) – TaylorMade Adidas Summer Open; Bob Flaro – Seniors Championship; Graham Gunn (White Sands) – Titleist FootJoy PGA of Ottawa Zone Championship; Chris Barber (The Landngs) & Scott Mikkelsen (Pineview) – Pro Pro Championship; Chris Learmonth (Deep River) – Match Play Winner; Gord Percy (Carleton) – Match Play Runner-up; Marc Foucault (Kingsway Park) – Match Play B Side Winner and Brent Deighan (Kanata) – Match Play B Side Runner-up.

Bob Flaro was also named the flagstick.com Players Tour Player of the Year.

PGA of Ottawa Special Awards

Special awards were then presented to PGA of Ottawa members who had been nominated by their fellow professionals.

The PGA of Ottawa Assistant Professional of the Year Award was won by Martin Bertrand from the Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club. Also nominated in this category were Chateau Cartier’s Alexandre Rousseau and Royal Ottawa’s Marc Rouse.

The PGA of Ottawa Junior Leader of the Year Award was won by Marc Rouse from the Royal Ottawa Golf Club over fellow nominees Dan Lougheed from the Ottawa Hunt  and Kevin Haime from the Kevin Haime Golf Centre.

The PGA of Ottawa Merchandiser of the Year Award went to Buckingham Golf Club’s Eric Robillard over Royal Ottawa’s Paul Carrothers and Hyland’s Rob Lindsay.

Nike’s Mike Doyon was the winner in the PGA of Ottawa Sales Rep of the Year over Acushnet’s Gavin Corbeil and Fletcher’s Keith Riley.

Colin Orr from the Ottawa Athletic Club took home the PGA of Ottawa Teacher of the Year Award over Champlain’s Michel Dagenais and Joe Dubinski from the 19th Tee.

The PGA of Ottawa Head Professional of the Year Award was won by Gord Percy from the Carleton Golf & Yacht Club. Also nominated in this category were Kanata Golf Club’s Scott Johnson and Derek MacDonald from the Brockville Country Club.

PGA of Ottawa 2014 Board of Directors

The PGA of Ottawa held their Annual Fall Meeting at the Cedarhill Golf & Country Club on Friday, October 18th and they announced their Board of Directors for the 2014 season. Mississippi’s Dan Kolar was named President with Luke Saunders as the Immediate Past President, Greg Chambers as 1st Vice-President and Renfrew’s Christine Jarrett as Secretary. Director’s at Large are Marty Bertrand (Ottawa Hunt & Golf), Andrew Donaldson (The Marshes), Bob Flaro (PGA of Canada), Gregg Foley (19th Tee), Jeff Gunn (White Sands) and Colin Orr (Ottawa Athletic Club).
