Nine years after launching the Buscemi brand, Italian-American designer Jon Buscemi has added another notable notch on his resume. The former Wall Street worker, who turned fashion icon after a string of work in the shoe business leading to his own brand, has teamed up with FootJoy to create some special footwear. Launched this week in Ponte Vedra, where the eyes of the world are on the Players Championship, the FJ X Buscemi collaboration presents a rich take on the FootJoy Premiere Series, already a popular footwear selection among the top PGA TOUR players.
Most notably “The Player’s Shoe” will be worn this week by the defending champion, Justin Thomas, who has proven to be the marquee model for the Premiere shoes as a FootJoy Ambassador.
“FootJoy has had some really cool energy around the Premiere Series collection which I have loved since the inception. I was also a huge fan of the 1857 collection for years as well,” said Jon Buscemi whose pedigree includes time with the DC Shoes, Lotto, Oliver Peoples, and Gourmet brands. “The cross section of centuries old style with modern twists is spot on and I was excited to play with those dynamics.”
Just as the coveted trophy at THE PLAYERS Championship gleams from the presence of gold, so does the FJ X Buscemi collection that uses tones of it to add a distinctive look to the now familiar appearance of the Premiere series.
”I’m really digging all of the small details put into this collection and the touches of gold throughout,” said Justin Thomas. “The combination of creative street style and golf performance is perfect, and I can’t wait to put these into play.”
As with all Premiere Series shoes, they feature the VersaTrax+ outsole for increased traction, and this collection has uppers fashioned from premium full-grain leathers sourced through, and hand-selected by, Pittards® of England.
