The 15th Annual Charity Classic took place on Wednesday,  July 15th at the Metcalfe Golf Club and it was a huge success.

136 golfers filled the golf course on a perfect summer day, all with the intentions of raising funds for the Osgoode Care Centre.

The Osgoode Care Centre (TOCC) is a 100 bed not-for-profit long term care home located not far from the village of Metcalfe, just south of Ottawa. It is home to 99 permanent residents with one short stay bed.

The centre was built with the support of residents of the Township of Osgoode to fill the need within the community and is the long term care centre of choice for those living in the area.

The field in this year’s Classic enjoyed eighteen holes of golf, numerous contests and raffles (including the Flagstick Go For The Stick Contest, Investors Group Swing Your Way to the Masters & Hole in One Contest & Barry’s Home Hardware Traegar BBQ hole) and a roast beef and pasta buffet dinner.

While competition was not the goal of the day there were prizes handed out to teams playing in various categories.

The first place winning foursome with a scramble format score of -7 was David Titley, Daniel Leduc, Rick Roy, Dan Gosselin.

With a score of -5 the winning mixed foursome consisted of Steve Quinn, Kirsten Quinn, Jack Martin, and Phil Quinn.

The most honest team included Diane Arbuckle, Pat Kaefer, Donna Lee & Jeanne Mowat, also known as “the green hat ladies”.

The team that won the Trivia contest was comprised of Sean Franey, Shamrock Franey, Len Burke and Wanda Rowan.

Additional prizes included: Closest to the Keg – Donna Lee, Closest to the Line – Bob Maysenholde, Closest to the Pin – (Men) Tim Elliot (Women) Doris Morrow, and Longest Putt – Josee Boudreault.

The key part of the day, of course, was raising money.  Through a donation of $25 per player, hole sponsorships, on-course raffles and contests,  a silent auction, the new addition of a live auction with auctioneer Steve James, and a generous top up by the Metcalfe Golf Club, the tournament was able to raise record $12,500 for the Osgoode Care Centre.  That brings the 15-year total to over $101,000.

Wendy Hill, Director of Community Relations accepted the cheque on behalf of the Osgoode Care Centre and thank the Metcalfe Golf Club for the support.

“We appreciate your generosity,” Hill told the golfers at dinner after accepting the cheque.  She further explained that funds would be used to purchase an oven, sound systems, and a portable keyboard for the residents, enhancing both their programming and recreational opportunities.

Metcalfe Golf Club General Manager Rob Howell, speaking on behalf of the sponsors Tom & Gloria Welch (Metcalfe Golf Club) and Jeff Bauder (Flagstick Golf Magazine), provided a history of the event which started with a donation of $1,000 in 2001.

Howell went on to thank all the supporters of the event and other charitable events held at Metcalfe Golf Club.

“We are very fortunate to have so many local people support this great cause in our community each and every year. We are thrilled to have topped the $100K mark and look forward to starting on our way to 200K on July 13th, 2016.”
