Regional Golf News & Notes

A brief mix of news items that may be of interest to you:

– The GolfTown National Amateur Series event scheduled for June 12th will now take place at Loyalist Country Club as opposed to the previously announced location of Cataraqui G&CC.  The June 14th event is still set for The Marshes in Kanata

-Lee Curry, Brad Fritsch, and Oliver Tubb will be in the field Thursday for the Times Colonist Open in Victoria.  The Canadian Tour event kicks off the Canadian swing of the Tour.  Curry is coming off a recent win at the Golf Quebec Spring Open.  Fritsch is back playing a longer Canadian schedule after several years on the Nationwide Tour.  Tubb, a native of Stirling, had his best Canadian Tour season in 2009.

-Darkness suspended play at the Golf Canada Canadian University/College Championships on Wednesday.  At the time of suspension Danielle Greene of Gananoque was tied for 6th place in women’s individual play after rounds of 77-77-75-229.

-Kingston’s Matt McQuillan opened with a 68 on Wednesday at this week’s EGolf Tour event in North Carolina.  The pro is 5 strokes back of the lead after day 1.

-NC State graduate Brad Revell will likely join his teammate Matt Hill in the pro ranks later this month.  Currently taking time to work on his game he has indicated he may make his pro debut later this month on the Great Lakes Tour at their event at Bond Head.  Revell was a two-time winner of the Ontario Junior Championship.

-There is a busy tournament week ahead.  The CPGA Ottawa Zone will kick off their tournament season at Renfrew with the Spring Open presented by Golf Trends on Monday, June 7th.  The event is now part of the flagstick.com Players Tour.  Flagstick Golf Magazine recently entered into an agreement to be title sponsor for the tour.

-In amateur action next week the OVGA will run the Men’s Four Ball as well as the Ladies’ Marjorie Strong Tournament on Monday, June 7th.
