Beauchemin Tops Golf Quebec Spring Open

The 85th playing of the Golf Quebec Spring Open took place at Beaconsfield Golf Club on Friday, May 30th.

It proved to be a “finally” moment for well-known senior professional Yvan Beachemin of La Tempête as he finally got his hands on the trophy for the first time.  Four times he had been the runner up in the first major golf event in the Golf Quebec schedule.

One of those occurrences was just last year when Beauchemin lost in a four hole playoff to Rémi Bouchard of Le Mirage.

At the end of regulation play Beauchemin was the low professional with a score of 68 (he was bogey-free on the day) but 21 year-old Alexis Gemme Piacente, now a student at the University of Central Florida, had matched his total.

The playoff between the two was a short one as Gemme-Piacente, the 2010 Quebec Amateur Champion, struck his tee shot out of bounds.  That left Beauchemin in the driver’s seat, one he took advantage of, as he ended the playoff on that hole to finally earn his first Spring Open victory.

All was not lost for Gemme-Piacente who claimed the low amateur title for the second time, having first won it in 2011.
Michael Crapper of Rivermead Golf Club was the low finisher from the Flagstick region as he tied for 10th place with a score of 71.
