Eastern Ontario golfers made their presence known on Tuesday at the first Canadian Women’s Tour event of the season. The 36-hole event wraps up today in Parksville, British Columbia.
Ottawa’s Grace St-Germain, just 15, got off to a hot start with a two under par score of 34 on the opening nine to contend for the early lead. She cooled off on the back nine but still ended the day with a respectable 74.
St-Germain sits tied for 15th place after round one, a spot she shares with another Eastern Ontario teen. That would be 16 year-old Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls – the 2013 Canadian Women’s Amateur Champion and a winner on this tour at age 14.
Brooke’s older sister, Brittany, shot 75 and is tied for 20th place. Brittany had a pro win earlier this year on Florida’s SunCoast Tour.
Leading the tournament at two under par are Samantha Richdale and Quebec amateur Anne-Catherine Tanguay.
