“It’s cool,” said second year Rideau View team player Cynthia Louden. “I really like match play.” These words were spoken like a true champion and represented the feelings of the rest of the members of the Rideau View Country Club Junior Intersectional Team which had just won the Ottawa Valley Golf Association Junior Intersectional Championship sponsored by Flagstick Golf Magazine on August 23rd.
Junior teams from Glen Mar Golf & Country Club, Mississippi Golf Club, Rideau View Country Club and Tecumseh Golf Club were the finalists in the summer play-downs throughout the Ottawa Valley. Players warmed up in a steady downpour at Kingsway Park Golf Club but by the time they reached the first tee little rain remained and indeed the sun came out for the remainder of the team matches.
First in with her six points was Cynthia Louden and she set a trend were each of the Rideau View team members walked away with a minimum of four points. “It means a lot to win the Gordon Scott Trophy for the first time,” were the words of Austin Evans who followed Cynthia with six points. “Out team played well throughout the line-up.” Other Rideau View players taking six points were Paul De Sadeleer and Matt James while Justin Fraser took five and Issac Lieff, Taylor Evans and Gabe Edelson each took four points. Alternates playing in the competition were Gordon Goodkey, Phil Martin and Maneil Joshi. Other players taking the maximum six points were Mike Knox and Will Courchene from the Mississippi Golf Club and Troy Hass from the Glen Mar Golf & Country Club.
Flagstick Golf Magazine Publisher Jeff Bauder was on hand to watch each player tee off and also present each participant at Kingsway Park with a small gift. After the final scores were tabulated by OVGA Junior Representative Peter Sabourin, Mr. Bauder also presented the OVGA Intersectional Trophy to Rideau View Country Club Associate Professional Tim Sewter.
The Gordon (Gord) Scott Junior Intersection Trophy was named the late Gordon Scott who was a tireless promoter of junior golf and initiated the junior intersectional competition in 1985.
Final results from the 2010 OVGA Junior Intersectional Championships were Rideau View (41), Mississippi (25), Glen Mar (22) and Tecumseh (8).
