The Houle Plumbing Senior Men’s Invitational presented by 1000 Island Concrete made a triumphant return to the Brockville Country Club (BCC) in Brockville, Ontario on Friday, July 15th with 80 competitors teeing it up on a golf course that was in prime condition. Fast greens and tricky pin placements led to many of the prize winners being from the host course.
Along with the 18 holes of golf, each player was gifted a signed photo of our Honourary Chairman, Hockey Hall of Fame member Larry Robinson, who also played in the event. Golfers joined the BCC contingent from all across the Ottawa Valley and Quebec. The field also included golfers from as far away as Nova Scotia.
This was the first time that this Senior Men’s Invitational was contested at the Brockville Country Club in three years due to the Covid-19 restrictions in 2020 and 2021. The tournament was divided into four age categories: 50-59; 60-69; 70-79; and 80+. Each division played a different set of tees appropriate to their age group.
The overall low gross for the day was Dale Watts (BCC: 50-59) – 74. Overall low net was Gary Locke (BCC: 70-79) – 62.
Low scorers in each age division were:
- 50-59: Low gross – Mark Peacock (BCC). Low net: Robert Dufour (Camelot GC)
- 60-69: Low gross – John Ryan (BCC). Low net: Rocci Pagnello (BCC)
- 70-79: Low gross – Ray Lumsden (BCC). Low net: Douglas Knight (BCC)
- 80+: Low gross – Don Houle (BCC). Low net – Bill Juhasz (BCC).
A special presentation was made to the two major sponsors: Don Houle (Houle Plumbing & Heating) and Bob Castle (1000 Islands Concrete) for their longtime support of this tournament. Tournament Chair David Dargie thanked Mr. Houle for his 30 years as Chair of this event.
In addition to the $5,000 worth of prizes made available by the support of our generous sponsors, the tournament was able to raise $1500 for the United Way of Leeds & Grenville which will be presented to that organization at a later date by Larry Robinson and David Dargie, the Co-Chairs.
