Showdown Set For Eagle Creek

-The of Area’s Best Golfers In The Mix for Ottawa Citizen Amateur Title-

If you are a fan of amateur golf in the National Capital Region, you might want a ringside seat for Tuesday afternoon at the Eagle Creek Golf Club in Kanata.

With just one round to play, three of the most accomplished golfers in the region are at the top of the leaderboard at the Ottawa Citizen Amateur Championship.  Dwight Reinhart, Jeff Crowe, and Allen McGee share a few things in common – they are all re-instated amateurs and each has won significant local golf events over the last few years.

The entire field met up for the second full round of the championship on Monday at the Kanata Golf & Country Club where some impressive scores were posted that tightened up the leaderboard.  Dan Tapp and Craig Domville shared honours for low round of the day, each with two under par 68’s, which moves each of them into a share of 5th place with eighteen holes to play.

Dwight Reinhart, the leader after round one with a seven under par score of 65 at eQuinelle, gave back three strokes to par at Kanata G&CC with a 73, but will still hold a two stroke lead at four under par total as the last round begins .

Lurking just behind is 2011 OVGA Match Play Champion Jeff Crowe of Camelot. He shot a solid 71 on Monday, made more remarkable by fact he had a flat tire on the way to the course at Kanata and had little time for warm-up.

Joining the trio at the top is four-time Ottawa City & District Champion Allen McGee of the Arnprior Golf Club.  McGee gained on Reinhart and Crowe on Monday by posting a 69 on the golf course that he grew up on.  McGee has a legitimate shot to defend the Ottawa Citizen Amateur title he won in 2010. He starts the last day three back of Reinhart.
