Carter Simon and Owen Bates were able to hang on to their first round leads on Sunday to win their respective categories at the Canadian Junior Golf Association East Aurora International Junior Masters Qualifier.  The tournament, the first for the CJGA in Eastern Ontario for the 2011, was hosted by the Black Bear Ridge Golf Course in Belleville, Ontario on May 7/8.

In the Boys 14 & Under Division Caryon Simon established a two stroke lead after round one.  The Sutton West, Ontario golfer shot 75 on Saturday and then backed that up with a score of 77 on Sunday.  That resulted in a four-stroke victory over Kyle MacDonald of Oakville, Ontario.  The top finisher from Eastern Ontario in the division was Eric Marshall of Ottawa in 7th place.

The race was much tighter in the Boys 15 – 19 class where Owen Bates of Mississauga ultimately won by a slim one stroke over Clayton Presant of Kingston.  Bates established a two stroke lead with a round of 73 on his first trip over Black Bear Ridge’s challenging course and backed that up with a 79 on Sunday.  That allowed Presant, who opened with a 75, to challenge for the title but he fell just short after scoring 78 on Sunday.
