Southern Success: Big Finish For Fritsch In Panama

It’s just two events into the 2012 Nationwide Tour Season and all things look pretty good for Manotick, Ontario’s Brad Fritsch.

The 34-year-old who now lives in Holly Springs, North Carolina but still retains a membership at Rideau View Country Club in Manotick, had a strong showing at the Panama Claro Championship that ended on Sunday.  Facing a brutal golf course that served up a fair share of punishment for the entire field, Fritsch made it through the week by shooting even par, 280, to earn a share of 7th place.

In the end his rounds of 70,70,71, and 69 left his just four strokes back of the eventual winner, Ed Loar, and garnered him a cheque for $17,737.50.

This follows a made cut at the first Nationwide Tour event in the season at the Pacific Rubiales Colombia Championship presented by Samsung in Colombia where he tied for 50th place.

After earning his Nationwide Tour status last Fall, Fritsch noted to Flagstick that he was looking forward to the South American swing based on his past success on the continent.  It looks like that streak seems to be holding up as his play shows.

With the finish on Sunday Fritsch leaped in to 16th place on the tour’s money list.  It’s a position he would love to be in at the end of the 2012 season of the top 25 players will learn their PGA Tour card for 2013.

Now that a top ten is out of the way, Brad will be looking to get even closer to the top of the board at the last stop on the South American jaunt for the tour.  This week the Nationwide boys head to Santiago, Chile to play in the Chile Classic presented by Pacific Rubiales.
