More than 350 golfers participated in the various divisions of the 54th Cornwall Open that ran on this past Labour Day Weekend but no class is more hotly contested that the pro flight that takes place on Labour Day Monday.
James Sperinck took top honours this year with a score of 70, one better than Bob Flaro, the former pro at Cornwall who now heads operations at the Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club, and Jeff Scott.
Sperinck, a CPGA assistant professional at The Meadows Golf & Country Club in Gloucester, is no stranger to the podium at golf tournaments. In 2009 he won the CPGA Ottawa Zone Spring Open at the Carleton Golf & Yacht Club. Next week he will compete as part of the Assistant Professional Team at the PING Challenge Cup presented by Flagstick at the Greyhawk Golf Club.
The winner tallied three birdies and just one bogey in his triumphant round and he gave plenty of credit to solid putting on the tricky Cornwall Golf & Country Club greens for his success.
Jeremiah Wood won the Men’s A Division in a five-way playoff.
We are still waiting on full results from the respective divisions.
