Spring Fever

The courses are getting green, golfers are heading out to play and that means only one thing (no, not me hitting the links) – a lot less sleep as we ramp up production of print issues and add more content to our outlets.

I’m not asking for sympathy, far from it – I love this time of year like any golfer.  With The Masters in the books that means golfers are more eager than ever.  The result is a lot more traffic to our website that needs managing, more content to create, and an endless number of projects on the go.

For those that have not visited the Flagstick.com website over the past winter you will notice a lot of content changes.  We have been publishing just about everyday – bringing you golf news and stories with a world outlook but a regional touch.  That is what we are and what we will continue to be.  If you need more frequent updates you can also check out our Twitter stream at www.twitter.com/flagstick At almost 9,000 updates and counting we have become the Twitter leader for Canadian golf outlets.  Feel free to follow us there – we love to interact with readers and golfers.

This is going to be a fairly short note today – the Flagstick staff is already deep into work on our May print issue.  Copies of the Spring issue, introduced at the Ottawa-Gatineau Golf Expo, are already in limited supply at a number of select locations but be assured that the May issue will be available at just about every golf course and shop in the region early in the month ahead.  For those who have not seen a 2011 issue we think you will appreciate the full glossy paper stock that we are using throughout the magazine now; it’s been receiving a very positive reaction.

A couple last notes and then I will leave you with a sneak peek at the new commercial for the Nike 20XI golf balls that will be introduced on April 29th (see below).  I plan to post some extensive content on these golf balls next week based on my recent visit to the Nike Campus in Beaverton, Oregon and live testing of the products.

– As the season progresses look for more video and audio content on this blog and other areas of the website.  We know you love multi-media so we plan to deliver more of it.

– Watch for some more golf product reviews this season.  Contributor Adam Stanley will be posting a few (including a Callaway Diablo Octane Tour one in a few days) and I will be adding a few as well.  This comes on request from readers like yourselves.

– And a last sort-of non-golf point.  As a fan of social media there are a couple things that irk me on occasion.  One is automated Twitter feeds with no personal interaction, or Twitter streams simply full of links to ads.  Add to that Facebook pages that are nothing but ads as well.  Do yourself and everybody else a favour and don’t encourage or reward these users by following them or “Liking” them.  It just encourages their impersonal use of a medium that should be nothing but personal.

And that Nike Golf teaser I promised…
