Regular readers of Flagstick have become very familiar with the “Road Trip” story we feature early in the golf season each year. The travel story details an adventure by myself and Flagstick Publisher Jeff Bauder as we wander the world in search of a great golf destination.
Well, ten years after we started this tradition among friends – a journey that has taken us to some fantastic courses and resorts, we are prepped to make what we feel might be the ultimate pilgrimage for golfers. In fact, we’re calling it the Ultimate Golf Road Trip.
We’re headed to Scotland on November 3rd.
Both Jeff and myself turned 40 this year and we felt that was enough of an occasion that we should get our behinds on a plane and head for where the game we both love began. With Scottish roots I feel a special obligation but that will just add to the emotion I feel when my feet finally touch down on Scottish soil.
We’ve had this trip in the works for months and are happy to be working with the good people at Ultimate Golf Vacations (www.ultimategolf.ca) and Visit Scotland (www.visitscotland.com) to coordinate the journey.
We’ll embark on our trip on November 3rd and will be blogging here for the entire length of the excursion. We’ll also be making a guest appearance on the Tee It Up with Kevin Haime radio show on Team 1200 (online as well) on November 6th live from St. Andrews.
The itinerary is still in the works so I won’t reveal the courses we will be playing and the places we will be staying quite yet. I’ll post a story once we get things finalized. I will tell you that East Lothian (www.golfeastlothian.com) will be part of it (see video below) and Allan Minto, their Golf Development officer, has been very enjoyable to chat back and forth with over the past year, especially on Twitter (www.twitter.com/golfeastlothian)
We’d love for our readers to follow along as we travel and we’ll be sure to provide stories, photos, and even video from Scotland and more once we return.
A full journal-style story will appear in the print edition of Flagstick Golf Magazine early in 2011.
